The liberating art of Tantra Massage

Tantra is a Sanskrit word carrying different meanings, as for instance to weave, to transform poison into nectar or a method of spiritual liberation through expansion. Tantra teaches by experience, and is a tradition going back thousands of years to times when wisdom was handed down orally.

In Tantric tradition, the human body is regarded as a temple, worthy of worship, sacred admiration, and a source of pleasure so intense that is beyond imagination.

I have learned Tantric massage as it is taught by Somananda (www.somananda.org). This means a bodywork session in which the knowledge and practice of Ayurvedic Massage are incorporated. The receiver remains passive during the session, and is touched physically, energetically and spiritually by the massage, which in the process releases different kinds of impurities, blockages and aura deficiencies. The receiver, tapping into his/her True Nature, experiences purification on a deep level, harnesses own energetic healing potential and overcomes fears of intimacy. The therapist is connected on a higher level (Samyama), observing the law of karma, karmic effects of healing, and protection from karmic influences.

Why is Tantra Massage needed?

-To reconnect with your body and become fully alive. Our lifestyle, the way we engage in daily activities, causes traumatic events and negative feelings such as shame (so very much known to all of us). All of it detaches us more and more from our bodies, shutting it down with the result that we became desensitised, incapable of enjoying the pleasure of physical touch;

-To re-establish the connection between the heart-centre and the sex-centre, and enable the free flow of energy through our entire being. Our creativity, our passion and deep emotions, they all “live” in our belly, between our yoni/lingam (female/male genitals) and our heart. If we are not fully alive, we become disconnected from our body, we cannot fully manifest as a woman or as a man. Also, by waking up the sexual energy, which is living and life giving at the same time, one opens himself/herself to experiencing bliss in all levels of being – body, mind and spirit;

-To reconnect with your femininity, your natural passion, your aliveness, your feminine radiance – woman is Shakti, Goddess, everything we know, all the energy in the entire Universe;

-To reconnect with masculinity, to find your centre, your ability to focus, to wake up your inner warrior, to manifest as God, as Shiva.

How many times and how often?

We are bond to our way of living, which is normal, but we need to remember that with this lifestyle it is inevitable that we experience stress, and that pressure builds up and stores in the body. One session of Tantra Massage is not a magic wand. Usually, the first session is mostly for establishing connection between therapist and receiver, so at least 2 sessions are needed to get the full experience of Tantra Massage. However, for a real change to occur between 8 and 10 sessions are needed. Our body, our entire being, needs time to adjust to the changes after the session in order to fully receive the results. Therefore, it is important that there are gaps between sessions, yet regularity is one important factor for success.

It is wonderful if partners can give the massage to each other – this is definitely a deeply loving and caring way, connecting partners at all levels, making intimate experiences blissful and profound. Still, it is very advisable to see a professional therapist for series of sessions on a regular basis, say once a year or every 2 years, or as soon as numbness is noticed. Last but not least, carefully check the background of the therapist that you are considering to see. You need someone you can really trust. Be aware of “happy-end” massage providers, that is definitely not Tantra Massage, and unfortunately there are too many of this kind.
